Digital Cable TV: 12 Cities will be Digitalized up to 30th September 2016, Absar Alam Said

Islamabad (March 18, 2016): Chairman Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA), Absar Alam hold meeting with Chief Minister of Punjab Shehbaz Sharief last day. During this session development of electronic media in Pakistan and role/services of PEMRA regarding matter were discussed.

PEMRA LOGOAbsar Alam told that PEMRA has taken step forward by improving and strengthening its policies. PEMRA has noticed the obstacles being faced by all the stake holders i.e. Radio, TV and Cable Operators and engaged to resolve on emergent basis. He also requested the honorable Chief Minister to support reduction in taxes on cable operators and initiative of PEMRA to give the industry status to ‘Cable TV’. He further added that digitalization process of Cable TV, will be completed in 12 major cities of Pakistan up to 30th September 2016. These are the following major cities which are going to be digitalized at first step:

1- Karachi

2- Lahore

3- Hyderabad

4- Faisalabad

5- Rawalpindi

6 Peshawar

7- Sukkur

8- Multan

9- Islamabad

10- Quetta

11- Gujranwala and

12- Hasan Abdal

Chairman PEMRA also requested the CM to stare into the matter of imposition of services tax on Cable TV by Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA). On the occasion Chief Minister of Punjab Shehbaz Sharief assured that said tax will not be implemented soon and matter will be resolved by consensus of all stake holders.
